UNESCO World Heritage Site in Goa:

Goa, the smallest city by area is a heaven for Indians as well as for the outside occupants. Goa has a number of wonderful places of entertainment that will rejoice and pumps a new energy in you besides your hectic schedule. Goa is renowned all over the world for its churches and convents and amongst them the group of churches and cathedral which were built during the mid 6th and 17th century AD are more famous. UNESCO World Heritage Site listed a few churches and convents of Old Goa under its record. The churches and convents of Goa include Chapel of St Catherine, Church of Lady of Rosary, Basilica of Bom Jesus, Church and Convent of St Francis of Assisi, St. Cajetan, Se Cathedral and Church of St. Augustine.

The Basilica of Bom Jesus: Bom Jesus is one of the churches and convents listed under UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Located in Old Goa which was the capital of Goa during Portuguese rule, the Basilica or Bom Jesus or the Basilica of Bom Jesu holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier who was the member of Jesus society.

Se’ Cathedral: Se’ Cathedral is considered as the biggest church in Asia and was constructed back in 16th century under the rule of Portuguese by the Roman Catholics. This church is is placed at high respect and sacredness by Christian community across the world which can clearly be experienced by a visit. UNESCO World Heritage Site listed Se’ Cathedral under its record on the basis of its architecture which reflects Portuguese art, sculpture and royalty.

Church of St. Francis Of Assisi: Church of St. Francis of Assisi is a sacrosanct place which was at first a chapel and after that was modified into a church in 1521 AD. On the basis of archeological study of India, the church was changed over into a museum in 1964. The architecture of Church of St. Francis of Assisi is a blend of the Tuscan style from the outside and the Mosaic-Corinthian style from the inside.

Church of Lady of Rosary: Located towards western side of Monte Santo or Holy Hill, the Lady of Rosary Church is accepted to be the site where Alfonso de Albuquerque sorted out his armed force and developed triumphant in year 1510. The amazing view of Divar Island and Mandovi River from the church is a sight to behold.

Church of St. Augustine: Built back in 1572 by 12 Augustian friars, the church of St. Augustine whose development was done in 1602 is presently in ruin condition. The main remain of this antiquated landmark is a bell tower which is now without a ringer today. In the middle of 1842 to 1871, the ringer of bell tower was evacuated and put at Fort Aguada Light House. Laer, It was replaced to church of Lady of Immaculate Conception situated at Panaji.
