Sandakphu Trek

Sandakphu Trek – 7 Nights and 8 Days

Day 1: Arrival Bagdogra and Drive to Manebhanjan

Upon landing, our representative receives you and assists you to transfer to Manebhanjan Base Camp. Manebhanjan serves as the gateway to Sandakphu Trek. On arrival, enjoy the mesmerizing views of surrounding.

Day 2: Trek to Tumbling

Today is our first day of Sandakphu Trek as Manebhanjan serves as the starting point. After an early breakfast, we will go to take permission from the forest office and then start our trek towards Sandakphu. In the beginning, a quiet steep trek will take us at Chitre.  The route up to Chitre passes through pine, fir, birch forests and bamboo glades. After resting for a while at chitre, the trail will lead us through a steady but gradual incline from Chitre  and then we reach at Lamaydhura. If you are lucky, you could also spot the wildlife. When we trek further up, we will pass though forests full of Chimal and Magnolia trees which will take us at the village of Meghma or Megma located at the border of India and Nepal. From Meghma, we will start our trek early next morning. From Meghma, the trekking route from Rhododendrons and Magnolias forest goes towards right for Tonglu, and that part belongs to India. Form Tonglu, tumbling is located at a small distance and provide a better lodging facilities then Tonglu. Tumbling will be your camping site for the day.

Day 3: Trek to Kalipokhri

Early in the morning, head out for an amazing view of  sunrise above the peaks of the Mount Kanchendzonga. Follow the trail along the boundary of the national park that passes though Tumling where a checkpost is located. From Tumling, a shorter trail cuts through Nepal and Jaubari. Jaubari is a good place to sit and have some sips of tea or coffee. From Jhaubari one has to take a right turn towards Gairibas. Gairibas is essentially a valley full of bamboo grooves. Rest here for a few minutes and then again start our trek toward Kalipokhri which will lead us through the forests of oak, rhododendrons and bamboo and then we reach at a place called Kaikatta. A descend from here will finally take us at Kalipokhri which will be our camping site for the day.

Day 4: Trek to Sandakphu

Today our aim behind this trek will get complete as we reach on the top of the highest point in West Bengal. Today we start early in the morning to get the views of the snow peaks from Sandakphu. From Kalipokhri, the trekking route gradually descends up to Bikheybhanjang. The name Bikheybhanjang means “Valley of Poison” because of the poisonous Aconite plants that grow in abundance around this place. From Bikhheybhanjang the climb up to Sandakphu is the steepest. Today’s trek will be mostly through the forests of silver firs, magnolias and rhododendrons. We also get mesmerize by the enchanting views of Makalu, Machapucchare, Lhotse, Chomolonzo, Nuptse, Baruntse, Everest, Chamling, and other peaks of the Annapurna range. Three sister peaks stand tall towards the north and then of course, the Sleeping Buddha lies before us. Towards the east, we will see the highest ranges of Bhutan – Chomolhari which rises above of all other peaks around it.

We will be at an altitude of 11,929ft, on the summit of Singalila range and at the paradise of trekking.

Day 5: Trek to Phalut

This morning will definitely be our best morning on Sadakphu Trek as the panoramic views will fill our heart with joy. Today, the trail is along a ridge and can be considered as one of the most enjoyable and scenic walks in the Himalayas.  The trail to Phalut will lead us through high altitude vegetation and areas of dwarf rhododendrons and firs. On arrival, find a suitable camping site and spent night over there.

Day 6: Trek to Rammam

Early morning, we will walk up to Phalut top to view the sunrise over the Himalaya.  After breakfast, we continue our trek to Rammam by following the trail that passes through the villages of Gorkhey and Samanden and also from the forest that  provides a loads of opportunities for bird lovers.

Day 7: Trek to Rimbik

Rimbik serves as the last destination of our Sandakphu Trek. After breakfast, we start from a gradual descend to the bridge at Sirikhola and after crossing a number of small villages, we finally reach at Rimbik.

Day 8: Drive to Bagdogra and Transfer to Airport

Today, you will be assisted to transfer at Bagdogra Airport to catch flight to next destination.
