Hazaribagh National Park

Introduction:

Hazaribagh National Park is located at Hazaribagh town in the Jahrkahnd State of India. The Park is spread over an area of 183.89 square kilometers. The park has also the same features as that of Betla to some extent. The population of the tigers is very less. According to 1991 Census, there were 14 tigers in the park. The tigers are often considered extremely difficult to sight. However the Park holds the highest number of wildlife species according to the census.

Flora:

The park has a vast range of vegetation consisting of dense tropical forests, grassy meadows and steep hills. The park is a haven for intense tropical forests. The whole park is covered with the fresh green of sal and miscellaneous trees in spring season.

Fauna:

The park has tigers, panthers, sambhars, spotted deer, bisons, wild boar, nilgai, chital, sloth bear and a number of mammalian faunas.

Best time to visit:

Hazaribagh National Park is open throughout the year. Best time to visit the park is during the months of October to March. The park remains closed during monsoons i.e. from July to September.

Getting There:

By Air: The nearest airport Ranchi (91 km) is connected with Calcutta, Patna, Lucknow and Delhi by regular Indian Airlines flights.

By Rail: The nearest railway station is Koderma, which is 59 km away, or alternately one can approach the park from the Hazaribagh Road railway station (67 km) on the Howrah-Delhi Grand Chord line.

By Road: Hazaribagh town is connected by road to Ranchi 91 km, Dhanbad 128 km, Gaya 130 km, Patna 235 km, Daltongunj 198 km, and Calcutta (via Asansol-Govindapur-Barhi) 434 km. The Hazaribagh National Park is 19 km from the Hazaribagh town. Regular bus services connect the town with Koderma, Hazaribagh Road railway station, Patna, Gaya, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Daltongunj and other nearby places.
