Kasu Brahmananda National Park

Introduction:

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is situated in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India amidst the concrete jungle. This park has a rich variety of unique species of Flora and Fauna. The Park is spread over an area of 390-acre (1.6 km2) of land. The park also houses the famous Chiran Palace, a 24-acre (0.097 km2) palace complex. There are over 300 of these colorful birds that win the heart of its visitors.

History:

The Palace complex of Nizams of Hyderabad namely Chiran Palace is located in the park. The State government, with the approval of the Central Government, declared the area as a National Park in the year 1998.

Flora:

Kasu Brahmananda National Park flourishes with various flowering plants and Southern tropical dry deciduous forest and the last vestigial representative of the endemic flora of Hyderabad region. Different variety of species includes Teak, Sandalwood, Neem, Babul, Palas, Ficus etc.

Fauna:

The richness of wildlife is found in Kasu Brahmananda National Park. The fauna found in this national park is primarily Porcupine, Jungle Cat, Small Indian Civet, Pangolin, Mongoose, Wild Boar, over 130 species of birds, 30 species of Reptiles and 30 species of Butterflies. The park supports over 300 Peacocks.

Activities:

Bird Safari: Many species of birds are found here. One can get full entertainment by bird watching in the park.

Jungle Safari: Jungle safari can be done to explore the flora and fauna of the region.

Nature Walks/ Jogging: Nature lovers can enjoy a walk and even jogging in morning or evening.

Photography: One can go for wild life photography as camera is permitted inside the park premises.

Best time to visit:

Kasu Brahmananda National Park is open throughout the year. Best time to visit the park is during the monsoon seasons. The park timings are between 6.00 am – 8.00 am and 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm. It is open on all days including Sundays.

Visitors are advised to get in touch with officials of the sanctuary for complete information entry timings and fee. Usually the Park remains open between 6.00 am – 8.00 am and 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm. It is open on all days including Sundays.

Getting There:

By Air: Begumpet is the nearest airport to the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park. This airport is located at a distance of five kilometers from the railway station of Secunderabad. The flights of Indian airlines connect the airport to Hyderabad and all the major cities.

By Rail / train: the nearest railway stations to the park are Hyderabad station, located at a distance of ten kilometers from the park, Secunderbad and Begumpet stations.

By road / local transport: The nearest terminal of APSRTC is at Goliguda in Hyderabad at a distance of 16 kilometers.
