Joshimath is a city that lies in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is also known as Jyotirmath. The city gives immense importance to religion and is known as one of the most popular destinations for pilgrimage in India. Joshimath was established in the 8th century by Shri Shankaracharya and is also one of the maths in India. The city is also described as Kartikeyapura which was named after the God of Katyuri kings, Kartikeya. It is located at an altitude of almost 6000 ft in the Himalayan region. Therefore it is the most famous hill station in the Chamoli district where it is located.

Since the city is very popular among tourists, Joshimath has been connected to the main cities around it very well. Destinations like Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun are a few places to reach Joshimath by road, rail, and also by air. There are many options for taxis as there are shared taxis that are available from Rishikesh at the Tehri bus stand. If you are planning to visit this popular pilgrim destination by bus then you can board a bus from the Yatra bus stand which is in Haridwar. The bus leaves at around 4.30 in the morning from the bust stand. There are several buses that leave from Haridwar; however, there is also a last bus that leaves at around 7.00 pm. It takes almost 9 — 10 hours to reach Joshimath from Haridwar and Rishikesh. Traveling by bus is a good choice as there are many other spots that one can enjoy on the route. The normal one-way rate by bus would be Rs. 350.

Joshimath is very famous for its scenic beauty and therefore there are many beautiful places which you will love to visit. One of the important places that you must visit in the city is the Valley of Flowers National Park. Since it is located in the Himalayan region there is a lot of greenery which attracts tourist’s attention. This national park has been declared a world heritage. The most attractive place in the park is the river Pushpawati which flows through the national park. It also divides the park into two. The best time to visit the park is between July and October.
